L2016-03 Serious hazard at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport on 28.10.2016

The Safety Investigation Authority of Finland will initiate an investigation under Section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into a serious hazard that occurred at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport on 28 October 2016.

The serious hazard occurred when air traffic control gave a taxying Finnair aeroplane permission to cross a runway on which an SAS aeroplane was landing at the same time. Finnair's pilots detected the approaching SAS aeroplane and did not start to cross the runway.

Psy.D. Sirkku Laapotti is appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team. Air traffic controller (retd) Tauno Ylinen, flight instructor Jukka Intke and air traffic controller (retd) Juha Paju are appointed as members of the Investigation Team. Chief Safety Investigator Ismo Aaltonen will serve as the Investigatorin-Charge.
