Hazardous situation in train traffic between Urjala and Humppila, on May 4, 1998

On Monday 4 May 1998, a hazardous situation in train traffic was generated on the section of line between Urjala and Humppila. In fact a digger performing its work tasks was given access to the track, though a scheduled freight train had not yet passed the site. The freight train finally succeeded in stopping before reaching the worksite zone. No damage to railway rolling stock or personal injury were caused by this hazardous situation.

The hazardous situation arose as a dispatcher working as an interlocking operator-trainee at Urjala failed to check the location of the freight train before giving permission to the digger to mount on the track.
